The Amazonian indigenous population is present in 11 regions of our country, representing 51 different ethnic groups and languages. However, they only represent 4.91% of the population that speaks native languages. Furthermore, this group also includes Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (PIACI), who are highly vulnerable to contact with populations outside their communities.
The statistics for the indigenous population are stark: only 5.51% have access to piped water, and 86.21% lack electricity. Illiteracy affects 19.41% of the population, with a higher prevalence among women than men. Similarly, access to various services is extremely limited, negatively impacting their well-being.
We want to reaffirm our commitment to working for the benefit of the Amazonian indigenous peoples, a group of people with so much wisdom and value for us, our country and humanity.
